Introduction

Welcome to the wild world of drag racing, where the cars are fast and the drivers may or may not have a clue what they’re doing. IHRA Drag Racing delivers an experience that will let you live your dreams of burning rubber, or at least watching some well-polished pixels do it, while you contemplate your life choices. Strap in, because this ride is about as smooth as an 80's mullet.

Gameplay

If you're new to drag racing, here’s a simple lesson: speed is everything, and IHRA Drag Racing is happy to remind you of this by providing a myriad of options to customize your ride. Not to worry if you have the driving skills of a blindfolded hamster, plenty of practice modes exist - so no one has to see your cringeworthy attempts at launching. The game features different racing modes - from one-on-one showdowns to a grueling season career, where you can pretend to be the next big thing in NASCAR, but with more engines and fewer reality TV show producers. You’ll interact with various technical settings and features like tire pressure and gear ratios that’ll make you feel like a real mechanic, or at least give you the illusion of knowing what you’re doing. Just look at those performance stats explode and be awed - you'll need a dictionary for most of these words, but that’s part of the adventure. The thrill of hitting the nitrous button right before launching yourself down the track fast enough to make your neighbors question your sanity is, indeed, exhilarating. Just remember, launching too soon leaves you with a face full of asphalt. Fun times.

Graphics

The graphics reflect the early 2000s well – if your idea of ‘great’ is a blue screen of death but with flashy cars. Colors are vibrant and the track designs impress with their apparent lack of curbs, which is excellent for someone who doesn’t know how to brake. The car models are reminiscent of your favorite Hot Wheels, reflecting the love and artistry of early 3D game graphics. In other words, if you squint hard enough, those digital cars might look like something you might’ve seen at a car show back when your parents were still paying for your dental braces.

Conclusion

IHRA Drag Racing is a decent romp down memory lane for racing game enthusiasts of a certain age – you know, the ones with a soft spot for retro graphics and physics that make you scratch your head. It's not going to win any ‘Game of the Year’ awards, but it’s a fun way to test your patience and enhance your admiration for actual race car drivers who do what this game pretends to emulate. If you love the smell of burning rubber and don’t mind feeling like you’re driving a potato on wheels, IHRA Drag Racing might just be the blast from the past that compliments your collection of nostalgic racers. Just remember to check your tire pressure... and perhaps consult an actual mechanic before heading out on the real track.
