Introduction

Ever imagined a world where your decisions not only dictate the fates of fictional characters but also test your friendships? Welcome to Hidden Agenda, a game that combines an interactive storytelling experience with the tension of a murder mystery, and the emotional betrayal only your buddies can provide. Grab your controllers, or rather, your smartphones because it's time to "play" like you're in a game of Clue, but you're also the murderer!

Gameplay

In Hidden Agenda, players engage in gripping narratives as they step into the shoes of homicide detective Becky Marney and district attorney Felicity Graves. Your main mission? To track down a serial killer known as the Trapper. Sounds like fun, right? Essentially, the game offers quick-time events designed to result in the player's choices leading to life or death situations for beloved characters, causing awkward moments for your buddies who accidentally voted for the 'wrong' decision. Moreover, this game utilizes the PlayLink feature allowing your friends to join in on the fun using their smartphones. Are you ready for the tension? Imagine your friends voting against your choice just to see you stumble. If they have a hidden agenda (see what I did there?), one player will receive secret objectives that could derail everyone else's plans. Nothing says friendship like sabotaging your best friend just to win a game, am I right? Argy-bargy decision-making and consequence-heavy storytelling drive every chapter. You'll experience finger-bleeding QTEs (Quick Time Events), so be prepared with a bag of ice for your fingers afterwards. Choice highlights include whether to save a hostage or chase a leads. Each decision branches the story into multiple directions and can lead to characters' untimely demises - or save them, if you get a stroke of genius or just pull off a miracle! Overall, the core gameplay adds a delightful layer of chaos, reminiscent of your favorite crime thrillers, making it a compelling experience not just to play but also a social event that can lead to laughter, arguments, and possibly a few friendships lost along the way.

Graphics

Hidden Agenda takes advantage of Unreal Engine 4 which means the visuals are, for lack of better terms, 'decent'. Characters resemble their live-action counterparts with performed motion capture that's more complex than your average game - just be prepared for uncanny valley moments where you think you're just a little too close to reality, like a family reunion gone wrong. The graphics aren't cutting-edge, but they effectively immerse you into this gritty narrative filled with psychological and moral dilemmas. If anything, it does a great job reflecting the weight of your choices through a blend of video and scripted scenes that'll have you convinced you're in a Netflix series that you can control. Dress it up with some atmospheric lighting and sound design, and you're set for a cozy night in, complete with artificial life-and-death drama.

Conclusion

Hidden Agenda is a mixed bag that plays off the clever concept of shared decision-making and interactive storytelling. It brings tension, excitement, and the joy of watching your friends squirm as they accidentally vote against a character they love, or worse, themselves. With a score of 7.5 out of 10, it proves to be generally engaging for groups of friends - just make sure you choose them wisely. At the end of the day, you're not just making choices; you're learning which of your buddies might just be a little too enthusiastic about their sinister hidden agenda. Happy gaming!
