Introduction

In the digital equivalent of rubbing dirt in your mate's wounds after a rough tackle, AFL Premiership 2007 takes you into the thrilling world of Australian rules football-without the risk of real-life concussion. Released exclusively in Australia, this PS2 title is the last in its series developed by IR Gurus. Let's lace up our virtual boots and tackle this game head-on.

Gameplay

Gameplay starts with the single match mode which is as simple as saying, 'I want to control a bunch of grown men kicking a ball around.' Choose your favorite team, set some random options, and pray to the sports gods for a win. Shocking amounts of realism continue into Mission Mode where you're tasked with historical matches, enduring pressure similar to that of a footballer in the fourth quarter-without the risk of losing your lunch. Career Mode takes the game from 0-100 real quick. You'll manage everything from the players' development (think training montages) to stats-yes, even the Brownlow Medal because why not? Players' stats and awards give you that fulfilling sense of accomplishment and impending anxiety about whether you'll screw it all up at the last minute. Multiplayer offers couch competition-and if the brawls get serious, no one needs to worry about red cards when you can just unplug the console and call it a day.

Graphics

Innovative graphics for 2007! That's a kind way to say it looks like your aunt's old photographs. Players look like they've been painted by a toddler who got a little bit too creative. The crowd features a collection of blurry blobs enjoying the match, looking far more lively than anyone watching at home. Stadiums are modeled after their real-world counterparts, which is great if you squint a bit and ignore the fact everyone looks like they just came from a flat paint convention.

Conclusion

AFL Premiership 2007 offers a charming, if somewhat uneven, experience for its target audience. For football fanatics who live and breathe the AFL, this game is comparable to a footy meat pie-with a few questionable ingredients. It's nostalgic, slightly chaotic, and perfect for when you want to avoid actual physical exertion while feeling like a sports star. Grab your mates, fire up the PS2, and relive fan favorites from the 2007 season, because who wouldn't want to dust off the classics? 6/10 for tackling that fine balance between a solid sports simulation and an exercise in patience.
