Let’s talk about Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, the game that reminds you just how many collectible fruits you can shove down a cartoon marsupial's throat before losing your sanity. Surprise, it’s a platformer where you run, jump, and spin like your life depends on it—because sometimes it does.
You get to control Crash or Coco, the brother-sister duo having the time of their lives while trying to save the multiverse (you know, standard family business). The levels are divided into dimensions, each more creative than the last, which is great unless you’re experiencing classic platformer frustration—and by that, I mean. However, they have made certain jumps exceptionally tricky, so you may find yourself cursing at the screen, lamenting your failures like a tragic Shakespearean hero. New to the series are the Quantum Masks, these magical little guys that grant special abilities like reversing gravity. So, if you were unhappy with gravity, here's your chance to defy it by walking on ceilings, which sounds dreamy until you realize that you still can’t avoid falling into a bottomless pit. Who wants to be less dead, am I right?
The graphics are leaning heavily into the 'Is that a Saturday morning cartoon or a video game?' aesthetic, complete with vibrant colors that scream for your attention— and maybe a performance review too. It’s beautiful—if you’ve ever wanted interactive 90s nostalgia wrapped in a 4K bow, you’ve found your game. The visuals alone could convince your mom that video games are art, which, of course, they are (she just doesn't know it yet).
So is it worth hopping on the PS5 to play this title? Absolutely, if you enjoy challenges and the kind of frustration that comes from platforming difficulties mixed with a slinky banter. 'Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time' is a nostalgic rollercoaster that keeps gloriously crashing into the past while also marking a new chapter. Grab your controller, grab some Wumpa fruits, and brace yourself for some cartoonish chaos—just watch your step, or you might find yourself plummeting into disgrace... again.
