Introduction

Welcome to the mystical realm of Shattered – Tale of the Forgotten King, a game that basically asks, "What if Dark Souls and a platformer had a baby, and that baby was obsessed with a king who – surprise – is really terrible at staying put?" Spoiler alert: the king is MIA, and you, brave Wanderer, are left to sift through the wreckage, battling foes and contemplating life choices in a pixelated universe. Buckle up, it’s going to be a wild ride!

Gameplay

Imagine if a Soulslike game decided it wanted to be a platformer as well; now you’ve got Shattered. The gameplay feels like a bizarre mashup of trodding through dark forests while facing tricky platform jumps—plus adding in some ghostly apparitions that want to turn you into confetti. Your basic tasks include battling enemies that look as though they’ve been given a bad haircut (poor guys) and platforming your way across beautiful yet treacherous landscapes in 2.5D visuals. It’s not just about mindlessly slashing at baddies, no-siree! Timing is key here, as there’s a rhythm to dodging and striking, so prepare to channel your inner dancing queen when facing off against epic bosses. There’s also an intriguing loot system that'll keep you feeling like a borderline hoarder as you loot, explore, and battle your way through regions that might as well be directly out of a gothic painting—all while asking yourself, "Why am I even here?" Trust me, it’s just as existential as it sounds.

Graphics

The visuals in Shattered are downright gorgeous—seriously, the art direction would make even the most jaded gamer shed a tear like an emotional GIF. Developed on Unreal Engine 4, the hand-painted environments are as delightful as a fresh taco on Taco Tuesday. Shadows creep along the walls in a way that makes every corner heighten the suspense of possibly meeting your doom. So grab your snacks and prepare to ogle landscapes that mix the ethereal and the eerie, all while reminding you that you’re definitely alone in this big, bad world.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, Shattered – Tale of the Forgotten King is like that friend who shows up at a party after everyone has started drinking: a bit disheveled, slightly awkward, but ultimately fascinating. It has it’s flaws for sure (like the fact that half the time you might feel lost, both in-game and in life), and the combat can feel a bit clunky, adding some frustration to the fun. But if you’re willing to stick around and enjoy the vibe rather than get lost in your own despair (or Google), you might just discover a gem hidden beneath the surface. So, grab your controller and embrace the chaos. Just remember, if you find the king—tell him to set a calendar reminder next time!
